China in Brief


Formal name: The People's Republic of China

Capital: Beijing

Location: In the east of the Asian continent, on the western shore of the Pacific Ocean. China is bordered by Russia, India, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Vietnam.

  Land size: 9,600,000 km2.

Population: More than 1.3 billion, one-fifth of the world's total. This figure does not include the Chinese living in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and Taiwan.  China has 56 nationalities, of which Han is the biggest accounting for 91.6 % of the total. The other 55 ethnic minorities are the Zhuang, Manchu, Hui, Miao, Uygur, Yi, Tujia, Mongolian, and Tibetan etc.

Climate: Extremely diverse; tropical in the south to sub-arctic in the north.

Religions: The number of religious worshippers in China is estimated at well over 100 million, most of whom follow Buddhism. Other religions are mainly Daoism, Islam and Christianity in both Catholic and Protestant forms.

   


History and Culture:

With a history of more than 5000 years, China, a country with scenic splendor, vibrant cities and ancient mystery, beckons the international visitor with a myriad of attractions, which are equally tempting to the global visitors as well as domestic residents.

About Tianjin

 


Population: 10.4 million

Area: 11919.7 km2

 

Location:

Located at the northeast part of the North China Plain, 120 km from Beijing, the Capital of China, Tianjin, has become the hub of communications of North China and the gateway of Beijing.

 


Resources:

The city is rich in petroleum, natural gas and sea salt along the coastal area. As one of China’s biggest industrial centers, Tianjin has built up an all-round industrial system with machinery, electronics, textiles, chemicals, metallurgy etc. as its mainstays.

History and Culture:

Tianjin has a history of more than 600 years, which could be traced back to the year 1404 in Ming Dynasty when the emperor Yongle realized the military importance of the geographical location of the place and decided to build a city on it.

 

Local people are diligent and friendly. They love peace and love to fully enjoy their natural way of life, that’s maybe why Tianjin is so colorful in its food culture and spiritual culture. For example “go believe” (steamed bun with stuffing), Guifaxiang Fried Dough Twist, acrobatics, comic dialogue, fork art Niren Zhang clay sculptures etc.

The average temperature in October in Tianjin is around 20, cool and pleasant.
